The f(A)bulous workshop on matrix functions and exponential integrators

Together with Kathryn Lund from MPI Magdeburg and Stephane Gaudreault from the Canadian Meteorological Centre, IMACM member Marcel Schweitzer organized this 3-day workshop in Magdeburg.

The workshop to place at the Max Planck Institute for the Dynamics of Complex Systems in Mageburg from September 25 to September 27, 2023. It aimed to establish an initial benchmark collection and standards for key problems in matrix functions acting on vectors and exponential integrators, two highly active fields with overlapping interests, algorithms, and challenges. The workshop also  encouraged discussion among researchers from diverse theoretical and applied backgrounds, to help identify open questions and key directions for the future of these fields.

The fully in-person workshop featured plenary lectures by experts in f(A)b and exponential integrators, as well as ample discussion sessions, in a non-traditional format.  The workshop presented an exciting mixture of contributions from international established senior scientists as well as from early career researchers.
