IMACM's participation in two new EU Marie Sklodowska-Curie doctoral networks will bring four international Ph.D. students to Wuppertal in 2023.
Two new EU doctoral training networks

Dr. Claudia Totzeck is a new junior professor for continuous optimization in the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences at the University of Wuppertal. In her research, the 34-year-old deals with the modeling, simulation and optimization of interacting particle systems, which are used, for example, in the control of pedestrian or herd behavior. The junior professor studied mathematics (Bachelor) at the Justus Liebig University of Giessen and Mathematics International (Master) at the Technical University of Kaiserslautern, where she also received her doctorate in 2016. Claudia Totzeck was a research assistant at the TU Kaiserslautern and a Margarete von Wrangell Fellow at the University of Mannheim until her move to Wuppertal in April of this year.
New Junior Professor for Continuous Optimization

The 21st European Conference on Industrial Mathematics (ECMI2021) will take place from April 13 to 15, 2021. This conference is organized every two years by the "European Consortium for Mathematics in Industry". Due to the Corona pandemic, the conference will be held completely online and organized by the Bergische Universität Wuppertal.

Doctoral students in applied mathematics started a SIAM Student Chapter at the University of Wuppertal. The aim of the SIAM Student Chapter Wuppertal is to unite both graduate and undergraduate students with an interest in computational and applied mathematics. The chapter organizes local meetings on subjects of interest, including seminars by students and faculty of the University of Wuppertal, as well as invited speakers from other institutions, excursions to industry sites, and workshops on different topics in applied mathematics and beyond. The Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM) provides funds to support activities of the student chapter.

The IMACM-Juniors seminar trip took place from 11th to 13th February in Schmallenberg. The aim of the seminar was to bring the PhD students of the different working groups together. 15 Participants (14 PhD students, 1 Post Doc) of four different working groups of IMACM presented their research in the beautifully located seminar house. Furthermore, there was time to discuss research topics and general questions regarding the dissertation. In the evenings there was time for socializing while cooking together and playing board games.
