Wil Schilders holds the fourth „Dr. Jörg Mittelsten Scheid-Visiting Professorshipr“ in the winter term 2020/21

He wants to advance mathematics as a key technology and highlight its importance for industry and society: Wil Schilders. The professor of "Scientific Computing in the Industry" at the Technical University in Eindhoven, the Netherlands, is an expert in the development of mathematical methods used in simulations of products and processes in industry.

Schilders is visiting the IMACM at the Faculty of Mathematics and Science. Schilders studied mathematics at Radboud University Nijmegen and earned his doctorate at Trinity College Dublin. Before joining TU Eindhoven in 2010, he worked for 30 years in industry, including Philips. He is president of the European Network of Applied Mathematics, EU-MATHS-IN, as well as a board member of the worldwide organization "International Council for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (ICIAM)" and frequently collaborates with companies such as Shell, Bosch and Siemens.


Interested parties are cordially invited to exchange ideas with Wil Schilders. During his time at Bergische Universität, he will provide insights into his work in various events.


His inaugural lecture "Mathematics for Industrial and Scientific Challenges - A Window of Opportunity to Boost Innovations" will be held on October 27. The event will take place from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in Lecture Hall 33 at Bergische Universität Wuppertal and will be broadcast live on the Internet via Zoom due to the limited number of participants due to the Corona pandemic.
