Shape optimization is an active field of mathematical research. This talk discusses the practical usage of the shape calculus in several fields of application and the numerical aspects and exploitation of shape Hessians. The field of application include flow problems, thermoelastics and acoustics. Furthermore, novel aspects in the form of Riemannian shape manifolds and their possible consequences for shape Hessians are presented.
